Yoga Class Descriptions Gentle Hatha Classes are created with the beginning yoga student in mind.
Going at a slow and focused pace, the student will have the opportunity to
learn breath work (pranayama) and fundamental poses (asanas) allowing them to
experience the connection between breath and movement. This level
provides an environment of support in which beginning students can learn the
foundations of a yoga practice: yogic breathing, movement, proper
alignment in the postures, and meditation. Deep Hatha A profoundly restorative, healing and invigorating class designed to promote physical and emotional balance, self-healing, release of stress and greater inner awareness. Deep Hatha blends Yoga postures, Pranayama, Mantra and Meditation with the core philosophical principles of YogaAyurvedic Medicine. and Students are encouraged to use the breath as the main vehicle to enter beyond the physical state of asana. Sequencing is energizing and dynamic, yet compassionate in it's emphasis on working where the body needs to in the moment. Great for beginning, intermediate and advanced students, those with injuries, chronic pain or illness, and those seeking personal growth and self-transformation.
For more experienced students who have an understanding of the fundamentals of a yoga practice. These classes provide an opportunity for refining and adding depth to basics as well as introducing more challenging poses. Pranayama, strength, stamina, and flexibility are further developed. In this class students are introduced to flowing, fluid movement from one asana to the next. Sun Salutations, while incorporating the Ujjayi breath technique, are at the core of this class. Students are also introduced to the nine classic Drishtis (points of gaze or focus), an additional technique, used to draw consciousness away from distractions and towards one point of view - a point from where concentration is directed inwards.
Vinyasa Flow For the advanced practitioner who seeks a more challenging and
dynamic yoga practice. This class will challenge your body and
mind. Bringing you to higher levels of focus and concentration also
allowing the students to develop and further express their energetic power.
The pace is somewhat faster than Adult Intermediate classes, asanas are
held for longer periods, and control and precision in the transitions between
poses are emphasized. The principles of connecting breath with movement
and becoming one with your practice are already very familiar to students in
this class. Vital Vinyasa Guided Meditation Many people have heard the phrase "guided meditation" but aren't sure exactly what it means. The techniques of guided meditation are meant to calm the mind, relax the body and release any negative stress-related toxins. Meditation allows the practitioner to weave the external and internal states so that we can access a state of balance that can be carried through to the world around us. Guided meditation may intimidate some people who have no experience with meditation or other peaceful exercises. However, the process, with practice, becomes easier and through a guiding voice, many learn to love the experience and find it a calming and useful tool wherever they are. Anyone who is able to take a few minutes out of their day to concentrate can obtain a healthy and meaningful guided meditation session. Classes are meant to build community by encouraging comments and questions at the end of each session. |

Meet Our Instructors Sarah H.
Offering a creatively flowing yet core-deepening practice, Sarah Hathaway teaches ways to access the energetic and physical power of your center. Yin and Vinyasa Flow classes are designed to challenge you and to release long held tension in the whole body. Ashtanga influenced poses are linked with breath and anatomical awareness. Sarah studied with Ganga White and Tracey Rich at White Lotus in Santa Barbara.
Khushi’s love of Yoga began with conversations with her grandmother, who told her that the most important thing in life was her health. Through practice and teaching, Khushi integrates the physical, emotional, and spiritual elements of health through her understanding of asana, pranayama, meditation, and ayurveda. Yoga to her is the ultimate realization of dormant inner potential, and she hopes to guide everyone to access that within themselves. She believes Yoga should not be confined to the mat, and is meant to be integrated into every experience in life. She received her teacher’s training at the Himalayan Institute, and performed her karma yoga duties there for the past 1.5 years as an herbal apprentice. She currently is working on her MPH/MSW at Temple University. She loves to dance, cook, garden, and talk Yoga philosophy any chance she gets!
Jillian
Jillian discovered her passion for yoga while living in Austin, Texas. In 2006, she completed yoga teacher training, became a certified personal trainer and is now working towards a Masters in Clinical Counseling Psychology. Along with yoga, Jillian studies Vipassana (Insight) Meditation, Transcendental Meditation, NIA, Tai Chi and Aikido and incorporates these healing arts into her classes. She continues her yoga journey with master teachers Gary Kraftsow, Mark Whitwell and her own personal practice and self-study. Jillian has returned from her most recent adventure—teaching yoga and meditation in Mexico at a retreat on the coast. She loves playing with children and animals, walking as a form of transportation, adventure travel, cooking vegetarian meals, dancing, watching movies, reading everything and sleeping in. Most recently Jillian has become a level 1 and level 2 certified Reiki instructor.
Erin
Since starting on the path, Erin has explored
various styles of yoga with renowned teachers in NYC and beyond. Her personal practice includes Vinyasa,
Jivamukti, Ashtanga, Hatha and Anusara.
Erin is certified in Interdisciplinary Yoga from the Nosara Institute in
Costa Rica. She also apprenticed for one year at PURE Yoga in NYC under
her teacher Marco Rojas. Her classes
blend elements from multiple branches of the magnificent yoga tree.
Meghan Meghan is a certified vinyasa teacher who loves all that yoga has to offer. A former ballet dancer, she found in yoga the beauty of movement with a deeper spiritual connection. Meghan highly recommends the Bhagavad Gita as both a fascinating story and a way of taking your yoga practice off the mat. In her spare time she plays with her two house rabbits, cooks vegan gluten free foods and hors devours literature.
Lana
Lana completed her 600-hour Massage Therapist Certification at the Omega Institute in 2005. She earned her Reiki I and II certifications through the Reiki School of Philadelphia. Lana has also completed a 100-hour certification in Ayurveda for Self Care in 2007, and a 30-hour certification for Essence Bodywork in 2008 at Pachamama in Costa Rica. Her most recent accomplishment is the completion of a 250-hour certification for Yoga Teacher Training at Wake Up Yoga. Lana has a wonderful capacity for being wholly present with her clients, which enables her to be responsive to their needs. She brings a deep sense of meditative serenity and focused intention to her massage treatments and yoga classes. Lana is passionate about helping her clients to sink deeply into their most relaxed selves, releasing accumulated "baggage," flushing out toxins, creating space, quieting the mind, replacing "dis"ease with ease, and recharging them to continue on their life journey. I approach healing from a holistic perspective, treating mind, body, soul as one. I believe that each and every one of us has our own innate ability to heal ourselves as well as maintain that healthy state.
Sara R.
Sara views her yoga practice like a journey home, one that connects us to the present moment and to the source that guides us through life: ourselves. With this in mind, the breath is placed at the forefront of our practice as we layer on movements and alignment to draw the focus ever deeper, connecting to our source at the level of sensation. Certified through the Nosara Yoga Institute in Nosara, Costa Rica, Sara is forever grateful for the opportunity to share this practice of love and self-care with others. As such, it is her every intention to hold space for students to dive into an inquiry with themselves on their mats, and journey home to their own personal joy.
Kate While somewhat new to the practice of yoga, in 2005 I found my love for the practice at a Bally's gym of all places!. My instructor was creative and fun and inspired me to pursue the yoga teacher training at Kripalu in Lenox, MA. Since becoming certified, I have had the pleasure of teaching in multiple settings; gyms, studios, prenatal and private sessions. My style is a blend of many disciplines, hatha, vinyasa, but all reflect the Kripalu philosophy that yoga is the practice of compassion and should be accessible to all people. I received my undergraduate degree in Art History from Carleton College in Northfield, MN and went on to pursue a Masters in Social Work from SCSU in CT. I am now a Licensed Social Worker focusing work with children who are exposed to trauma. I often incorporate my yoga into my social work and enjoy combining these two lines of work. I am new to Philadelphia, by way of Connecticut and am enjoying exploring the city! Namaste.
Natalie
Natalie's love of Yoga and healthy living is rooted in her study of Ashtanga Yoga and the Raw Food lifestyle. Growing up in the New York area, Natalie learned Yoga through Sivananda, Jivamukti, and Yoga Sutra. She did her 200-hour teachers' training with Ashtanga of New Paltz in the Hudson Valley of New York. Her teacher was Michael Stein, a student of Mark Becker and Sri Pattabhi Jois. Her education consists of a rich study of anatomy and yoga as a form of physical therapy. In addition, Natalie is a Thai Yoga Massage practitioner with private clients. Her classes combine an emphasis on body and breath awareness, good alignment, and steady flow. You may expect to receive careful hands-on adjustments in her classes. Kristin
Kristin first discovered her passion for teaching yoga in Winter 2009 while traveling through Central America and offering informal classes for other weary travelers. In April 2010, she went on to complete a 200 hour teacher training program in Costa Rica, led by her dear friend and mentor, Costa Rica/Philadelphia based yoga instructor, Angela Boltz. She has been leading creative and inspiring Vinyasa flows ever since. With a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology, Kristin believes deeply in the mind-body connection and challenges herself and others to use the mat as a safe place to explore and become curious about who we are. In the future, she hopes to combine her two great passions, Psychology and Yoga, to provide innovative, yoga-inspired therapy to the community. Paige
Paige was certified at OM Yoga studio in Manhattan in 2003, and is inspired to teach yoga through her love of dance, movement, music, and healing. She has studied with yoga greats such as John Friend, Rodnee Yee, Ana Forrest, Eric Schiffman, Judith Lasater, Bryan Kest, Cyndi Lee, Elena Brower, Kofi Busia, and regularly with Joan White. Her classes are light, relaxing, playful, and deliciously rejuvenating. Nicole
Throughout my entire childhood I have been intrigued by spiritual questions about the nature of life, self, death and reality. A few I decided to try yoga after many years of curiosity. I was immediately hooked! Yoga has brought peacefulness to my mind, body, and soul in ways I never expected. After losing my job last summer as a hairstylist, I decided it was time for a change of pace. I wanted to take time to travel, practice yoga and find my 'calling'. Feeling a true sense happiness every time I came to my mat, I decided I wanted to be able to share this feeling with as many people as possible! In March of 2011, I completed an intensive teacher training program in Costa Rica. I recently moved to Philly from Chicago and I am immensely excited to begin sharing my knowledge of the Yogic philosophy, meditation and physical practice!
